Hana Sushi in Stockton

My siblings have a preference for Hana Sushi maybe mostly because of convenience as it is not very far from where we live in Stockton, California, USA. So one hot summer day in early September 2016, we decided to drop by Hana Sushi on our way home from a routine medical check up with our primary care physician.

Hana Sushi is located at the Calaveras Shopping Square at the corner or March Lane and West Lane in Stockton, California, USA. That is less than 2 miles from where we live. As it's name suggests, Hana Sushi is a Japanese restaurant specializing in sushi cuisine.

Lunch Bento Specials at Hana Sushi

Bento lunch meal boxes which sells for $8.95 per order at Hana Sushi allows guests to choose from any two (2) from the following list of ten (10) dishes:

Chicken teriyaki
Beef teriyaki
Saba shioyaki (mackerel)
Salmon teriyaki
Sesame chicken
Tempura
California roll
Sashimi (raw fish)
Tonkatsu (breaded pork cutlets)
Gyoza (pot stickers)

The bento box also comes with a bowl of miso soup, a cup of rice, and vegetable salad. For my meal, I chose salmon teriyaki and gyoza. The salmon teriyaki was good. Not the best I have come across but pretty good.

My brother ordered mixed tempura (some shrimp or prawn and mostly vegetable) and chicken teriyaki for his bento meal. The tempura was good, nothing really special. We also felt that the chicken teriyaki had too much of a smoky flavor than preferred yet the sauce made it a bit better.

Mixed Roll Sushi at Hana Sushi

Since Hana Sushi is a Japanese Restaurant specializing in sushi, we decided to also order their mixed sushi from their lunch sushi specials menu. The mixed sushi plate had eight (8) pieces each of California roll, Tekka maki, and kappa maki. The Hana Sushi version of the California roll had avocado or guacamole and a crab meat salad. I could not be certain whether they used real crab meat or imitation crab meat on it. The other two (2) sushi rolls were pretty simple and straightforward. Tekka maki was sushi roll with tuna as filling and kappa maki was sushi roll with cucumber as filling. This mixed roll plate was pretty basic. Cost $8.95 + tax.

From the past, we have tasted more of Hana Sushi's specialty rolls such as the volcano roll, spicy shrimp tempura roll, and dynamite roll and we loved them.

We did have an issue about flies getting to our food inside the restaurant but management would say they do not have control over that. An insect actually got into our mixed roll sushi as we were almost halfway finished with it. For the trouble, Hana Sushi management agreed for us to only pay a discounted price on the mixed sushi roll.
